I led him to the nursery where I saw Gabriel sitting cross legged on the floor, dragging his index finger across the carpet. He looked miserable.
"Gabriel, he needs a change and guess who's the man for the job?"
Gabriel came over and picked Ethan up. He laid him on the changing table and didn't even get to pick up a clear diaper before Ethan started screaming.
"I WANT AWEX TO DO IT!"
"No, Ethan. That's where I draw the line. I can do other things with you, but no diaper changes."
"I WANT AWEX! NOOOO!" He screamed, as he almost rolled off the changing table.Gabriel just watched the scene and sighed.
"Hey, Ethan," I said softly, placing a hand on his shoulder. "How about this? You let your Daddy change you, and then we play together, alright?"
"You change and pway!"
"I won't play with you unless Gabriel changes you. If you refuse, I won't play with you ever again."
That was enough for Ethan to shut up and let Gabriel do his thing. He didn't look happy. I almost felt sorry for him.
Gabriel helped Ethan into a new set of pajamas and Ethan was perfectly compliant. This had to be painful for Gabriel as the only reason why Ethan was staying still was because of me.
The second Gabriel was finished, he left and Ethan ran over to the toy shelf. He dragged a box of Duplo bricks over to me and started to make a tower.
"Awex! Make one too! Whoeve makes the tawest towe wins!"
I played along with him, making multiple towers and combining some together. Every time I felt any sort of excitement, I made sure to bottle it up and crush it. It made the entire experience miserable, but anything was better than feeling like a child.
After 40 minutes I was feeling really tired, rubbing my hands against my eyes to try and make myself more alert.
Ethan came over to me and pushed over the new mega tower I made. It clattered to the ground, pieces scattered everywhere as he giggled in delight. I just looked at the destroyed tower. My hard work destroyed in seconds. It didn't even matter. It was just some stupid pieces of plastic, but why did feel like it mattered? I felt my eyes well up.
I didn't even say anything as I got up and ran out the room. I went to the bathroom, closed the door and sank onto the floor, curling into myself.
Gabriel's POV
I was sitting on the couch, staring at the ceiling. What was even the point of getting Caregiver if my Little didn't even want me, but would rather stay with the guy that hated him?
I was lost in my thoughts until I felt Ethan poke me. He looked scared.
"What is it, love?"
"It's Awex!!!" he said, tears filling in his eyes. If Alex did something to Ethan, I was going to kill him.
"What did he do?" I asked, trying to keep calm.
"I....I......I sowwy! I knocked ove Awex towe and he wooked sad. He ten wan away and I neve saw him again!" he cried, hugging me, tears flowing down his cheeks.
"I didn't mean to huwt him!"
That was odd. What reason would make Alex feel sad about a Duplo tower? Did it remind him of something?
"Where is he now?" I asked him.
"I tink he went to the batwoom," he said, putting a finger to his chin.
"There are other reasons people go to the bathroom, tiger. He probably just wanted to relieve himself. Don't you do the same, my little prince?" I said, ruffling his hair.
