"Just a little further in..."
Seven mumbled to himself while Mono maintained a firm grip on his hand. They were crossing their way through a sea of kids who appeared to be in the same predicament that they were in. They were looking for a class that was at their grade level, which was the very first one, but they weren't sure where to go.
"It should be right around here... aha!"
Seven pointed at the first door on the right as they rounded the corner of the hallway. The two passed through a large door that could easily fit a giant and went through it, Mono letting go of Seven's hand and freezing up in the doorway. A female giant was seen standing at the front of the room, her face smeared with makeup and lipsticks as if she didn't have enough time to get ready in the morning. She was wearing dirty teacher-like clothing and looked down at Mono and Seven, who appeared to be late.
"Ah, there you are! Take your seats, you two! You're late!"
"What?! How!?"
Mono furrowed his eyebrows and lowered his head, readjusting the paper bag on his head as he and Seven made their way to the back of the large class, moving toward the two empty desks on the very end.
"So... what do we do exactly?"
"You'll see..."
Seven gave him a smile as Mono nervously stared up at the teacher. He still had issues trusting giants, the only one he ever became close friends with was the Ferryman. Mono would spend all day telling the Ferryman stories about the Pale City, or the Maw, and the Ferryman would always be there to sit and listen. Even though the giant could not speak, he would always show interest by gesturing hand signals now and then that he was shocked, surprised, or confused.
"Alright class, turn to page one in your books! This is going to be a review of what you should already know!"
Mono felt ill as he watched everyone else unzip their backpacks and get out their books. Looking over to the side, he watched Seven stare blankly at his backpack, before dropping it to the floor with disappointment.
"Hey, what is she talking about, Seven..?"
"Dang it... I forgot to bring my book..."
"What book? I didn't know we had to bring a book..!"
Seven got out of his seat, moving to the back of the class. Maneuvering over to the bookshelf, he picked out two random books and ran back over to Mono, plopping one down onto his desk.
"Just pretend you're reading it..."
Seven sat down opening his up and staring blankly at it, gesturing over at Mono to do the same. He opened the book, turning to a page with a bunch of different shapes and mathematical equations that he didn't understand. The teacher stepped to the front of the class and whacked the chalkboard with a ruler.
"Attention! You two boys in the back, what are your names?"
Everyone in the class, including Mono and Seven, looked around confused.
"Yes, I'm talking to you, blue shirt and paperboy!"
The class erupted with laughter, the children turning to face Mono and Seven. Seven looked at Mono, who was slumped over in his seat, before standing up.
"Uh... hey! I'm Seven... and this is-"
"I'm Onom!"
Mono quickly interrupted Seven before he could finish saying his actual name. Seven gave him a confused look but decided to go with it.
