Chapter Thirty-Six: Puppy Pandemonium Part II
The next morning, chaos erupted at Pearson Specter Litt.
As the associates trickled into the office, those who had quietly or openly decided they wanted one of the puppies found a life-changing surprise waiting for them:
On their desks sat a tiny, perfect puppy of the exact breed they had admired. Each puppy wore a bow around its neck that matched the firm's colors-navy and silver-and sat in a cozy, plush bed. Beside the puppy was a small, carefully wrapped cake encased in a protective plastic dome.
A note accompanied each gift, written in the elegant handwriting everyone had come to recognize:
Congratulations on your baby!
- A Friend---
Rachel was one of the first to arrive. She gasped audibly when she saw the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel sitting on her desk, wagging its tiny tail.
"Oh my God," she whispered, picking up the puppy and holding it close. "You're perfect."
She glanced at the cake and the note, shaking her head. "This can't be real."
Mike walked in moments later and stopped in his tracks. Sitting on his desk, playfully gnawing on the edge of a chew toy, was the German Shepherd puppy he'd admired in the photo.
"No way," he muttered, running a hand through his hair. He picked up the puppy, laughing as it licked his face.
Across the bullpen, similar scenes unfolded as associates discovered their new furry companions.
---
Harvey arrived shortly after, striding through the bullpen with his usual confidence, only to pause when he saw the commotion.
"What the hell is going on?" he asked, watching as Rachel set up a water dish for her puppy.
"They're here!" Rachel said, beaming. "The puppies!"
Harvey raised an eyebrow. "Someone actually delivered them?"
Rachel held up the note. "The 'Friend,' of course."
Harvey sighed, muttering, "Unbelievable," before heading to his office.
---
Jessica wasn't as amused.
She stood in the bullpen, arms crossed, her gaze sweeping over the associates and their new companions. "This is getting out of hand," she said, her voice sharp.
Donna appeared beside her, holding a cup of coffee. "You have to admit, it's impressive."
Jessica shot her a look. "This isn't just impressive-it's invasive. Whoever this 'Friend' is, they're getting too comfortable. We need to put a stop to this."
Donna raised an eyebrow. "You sure you want to be the one who takes away their puppies?"
Jessica hesitated, glancing at Rachel, who was laughing as her puppy chased its tail. Her expression softened slightly. "I'm not saying we take them away. But we need to find out who's behind this."
---
Under Donna's desk, Harry was practically vibrating with excitement.
"Are they happy?" he whispered.
Donna leaned down, her voice low. "The associates are thrilled. Jessica's less thrilled, but she's not about to ruin the moment."
Harry grinned. "Good. They deserve this."
Donna shook her head, though her lips twitched into a smile. "You know this is just going to make the investigation worse, right? Puppies are a whole new level."
"Let them dig," Harry said, his green eyes sparkling. "They'll never find me."
Donna sighed. "You're impossible."
"And you love it," Harry said, popping a piece of chocolate into his mouth.
---
By mid-morning, the entire office was buzzing.
"You have to admit," Mike said, holding his puppy in one arm while eating a slice of cake with the other, "this 'Friend' has perfect timing."
Rachel nodded, her puppy curled up in her lap. "It's like they know us. I didn't even tell anyone I wanted a Cavalier."
"That's the weird part," Mike said. "How do they know what we're thinking?"
Rachel frowned, glancing around the bullpen. "Whoever they are, they're in this firm. They have to be."
---
In Harvey's office, Donna filled him in on the latest developments.
"So," Harvey said, leaning back in his chair, "someone gave half the office puppies. What's next? Ponies?"
Donna smirked. "I wouldn't put it past them."
Harvey shook his head, chuckling. "This 'Friend' is getting bolder. And if Jessica has her way, they won't stay anonymous much longer."
---
As the day wound down, the associates left the office with their new furry companions, their hearts full and their curiosity piqued.
Jessica, meanwhile, sat in her office, staring at a picture of a Siberian Husky that had been left on her desk earlier in the week.
"This has gone far enough," she murmured, picking up her phone.
---
Under Donna's desk, Harry smiled to himself, already sketching ideas for his next big surprise.
The puppies had been a hit, but he knew the investigation was heating up. And that only made the game more exciting.
