Chapter 69: The Day No One Was Saving the World

The screen had faded.
The sky was whole again.
And for the first time since the Eternia had set sail…

...no one was waiting for anything.

Morning

Hashirama created a small garden on the deck using soil from Clearside. Orihime planted sunberries. Winry labeled everything with hand-carved signs.

Oden and Rengoku took charge of watering.

They used buckets.

Too enthusiastically.

Ai updated her log.

“Garden partially flooded. Spirits high. Tomatoes lost at sea.”

Shirou and Rouge cooked side by side — not for a feast, just a quiet breakfast.
Rouge made a fruit jam that stunned Shirou into silence.
Shirou made rice so fluffy it made Oden tear up.

Roger ate both and declared: “We’re never buying food again.”

Midday

Giyu, Ukitake, and Madara sat on deck chairs. No conversation. Just sun, tea, and quiet.

Nearby, Itachi and Toki folded paper cranes. Not for symbolism. Just for calm hands and slow time.

Bam floated above the ship in a soft loop while Neji meditated, occasionally opening one eye and nodding like he approved.

Khun taught Ace how to play a slow-strategy card game.

Ace lost every round.

“Why are the rules so calm?”
“They’re designed to make you think before you explode.”

“…I hate it.”

“You’ll learn to like it.”

Shanks arrived late, quietly joining Silver at the bow.

They didn’t speak for a long time.

Then Shanks said, “You know, this might be the only ship in the world where no one’s trying to outdo anyone else.”

Silver replied, “That’s because no one has anything left to prove.”

Evening

A gentle lantern ceremony.

Not for the dead.

But for the day itself.

Because not all peace comes from silence.
Some peace is a celebration that nothing needs fixing.

Just people, alive, and together.
