After the Christmas holidays, the train journey back to Hogwarts was silent for Maeve. She didn't even want to think, she wish that would be silent too.
She had sat herself next to the window seat in the compartment. Her friends sat around her but they too were silent.
She looked at the blur of nature rushing past her window, but her mind was numb to the beauty. Her whole body was numb.
"You guys all look a mess," Regulus said, breaking the silence.
"Thanks man, means a lot," Barty said, managing a little smile.
"What happened?" Dahlia asked softly, slipping her small hand into Cissa's.
"When?" Cissa asked in a whisper.
"When you all turned into this," Dahlia said, "what the fuck happened? Was it that dinner?"
"Yeah," Maeve looked at Dahlia for a moment before her turning back to look out the window, "but it's fine, we'll be fine."
"It was just, a lot," Liz said, "it wasn't just getting a tattoo, that was the easiest part believe it or not."
"So it was like...an initiation type thing?" Regulas asked.
"Yeah, it was exactly that," Maeve said.
"It was so hard," Cissa said.
"But it's over now, and now we're official death eaters," Liz's voice cracked slightly making everyone turn sharply to look at her, "guys, I'm so scared."
Her eyes filled with tears. But Liz never cried, what was happening?
"Wait, hold up, what?" Regulus asked.
"Sorry, I'm just - what if we made a mistake?" Liz asked.
"Shut up Liz," Maeve shook her head.
"I'm being serious-"
"Maeve is right, shut the fuck up Liz. We can't do anything now. You know if we even give this a second thought he'll kill us," Barty told her.
"It's okay Lizzy, you're going to be okay, we all are - we have each other," Cissa reached out and touched her knee in comfort.
"You're right," Liz nodded, "sorry guys. You can't blame me for thinking like that though, right? That night was terrifying."
"Yeah it was, but we're a part of the better side now. This is the best thing for us," Maeve said.
"Yeah okay, you're right as always," Liz laughed slightly, wiping her eyes, "wow, sorry for crying. I'm normally not that much of a pussy."
"It's fine, crying's natural, Merlin knows Cissa does it enough," Regulus shrugged.
"Hey!" Cissa exclaimed indignantly.
"Thanks Reg," Liz laughed, before adding, "sorry Cissa, but you know he's right."
"Yeah, okay," She rolled her eyes.
A moment of silence. Soon interrupted by-
"Fuck my arm hurts though," Maeve said, "am
I the only one?""No, definitely not," Barty shook his head.
"Yeah my arm kills," Liz said.
"I'm kinda excited...I mean, we belong to this group now and these tattoos will be with us forever. It's really special," Maeve said.
They all nodded in agreement.
"But have to make sure we keep them covered for now, like he said," Cissa reminded them.
