A rooftop, dusk settling in. Ashak stands defiantly, ready to take on a looming figure. Etzia watches, and the figured arms crossed, tension in the air. Cyd hides inside the backpack while Mana appears, eyes narrowed at the figure.
Mana (StoneHills Middle disciplinary committee leader)
(suddenly appearing, arms crossed, voice cool) Well, isn't this a little rooftop party? And here I thought I'd find you in class—studying or something "reasonable."
Ashak
(a bit rattled) We were just—
Mana
(interrupting) Chatting with your new friend here? (glares at the figure) How about we skip the pleasantries? You have five seconds to explain yourself, or I'll make the fall look like a gentle slide.
Etzia
(sight) Mina not the best way to welcome someone I thought everyone welcome people like Pisa.
Mana
(smirks) Better to be a little hostile than naïve, Etzia. Besides, Ashak needs a dose of reality.
Ashak
(puffs up) I can handle reality!
Mana
What happen if you father saw you skipping classes.
Etzia
Mina we were our way just give us time.
Mana
(drawing closer, eyes glimmering) So, what's it gonna be, stranger? Will you talk, or do I need to show you, my skills?
Figure
(a hint of humor in his voice) You threaten me with fighting? Now that's rich.
Etzia
(sight) Okay, another brave person.
Ashak: (looking between them) So, does that mean taking down the bad guy.
Figure
I don't know what is that fuss about, but I am not looking for weaklings to fight other that girl approached me first when I was on way.
Etzia
Can't we just talk?
Ashak
What are we doing?
Mana
(with a raised eyebrow,) Well, Ashak, here's your chance. Want to stand by while the adults handle it?
Cyd
(softly, almost urgently) Exactly. The last thing we need is to escalate a situation that could get out of hand.
Figure
You know what you are getting my way so I will fight you I will start with the girl who challenge me first.
