Shruthi POV:
"I am also coming with you di.." Sree said while I was talking to my members".
"Sree, you're not coming with me," I said firmly, looking into her determined eyes.
"But Di, it's dangerous for you too!" she argued. "You always push yourself into trouble, and I can't just sit back and let you go alone."
Her words made my heart soften. She wasn't just being stubborn; she was worried about me.
She held my hands, pleading. "Please, Di... I won't be a burden. Just let me be with you."
I sighed, knowing there was no point in arguing. "Fine," I whispered, pulling her into a hug.
We stepped into the time machine together. I took the seat while she sat beside me, excitement sparkling in her eyes.
"This is so thrilling!" she squealed, gripping the seat. "I've seen time machines in movies, but I never thought I'd actually ride one."
I smiled at her excitement but kept my focus on the mission.
"By the way, why is this machine such a secret? No news, no leaks—nothing!" she asked curiously.
I glanced at her. "Sree, have you forgotten my profession? I don't answer to any government or law. Everything we do is classified. And this isn't some amusement ride. It was built to test if traveling back in time is truly possible. It's still in the testing stage."
Her eyes widened in horror. "Testing stage?! And you brought me into this?"
I smirked. "Excuse me, but you were the one who insisted on coming."
She gulped and quickly sat straight, clasping her hands together in prayer.
I laughed, shaking my head.
After three long hours, the machine came to a halt.
We stepped outside.
The air smelled fresh, untouched by pollution. Lush greenery stretched as far as the eye could see. It was breathtaking—yet completely unfamiliar.
"Where are we?" Sree whispered.
I had no answer.
The forest was dense, the sounds of birds and rustling leaves surrounding us.
"Shruthi, look there!" Sree pointed ahead. "Those plants—they're the ones I told you about! The Divinorum"
I walked forward, examining them closely.
"So, we reached the right place," I murmured.
"But... what year are we in? The air feels different... peaceful," she said.
I sighed. "No idea."
We wandered through the plants, but suddenly, a sharp scream pierced the air.
A cry of pain.
Sree and I exchanged a glance before running toward the sound.
Lying on the ground was a man, his body rigid, his breaths heavy. A strong, dark stallion stood beside him, stomping the ground anxiously.
My eyes fell on the arrow lodged deep in his chest. Blood seeped into his clothes.
He groaned, opening his eyes slightly. Before I could react, his hand shot out, gripping my throat in his hand and looked at me weakly.
I gasped.
"Leave me. I'm here to help," I said quickly to make him understand.
His fingers loosened. His eyes, filled with pain, locked onto mine before shutting again in pain.
