Satya's POV
Finally, I had proposed to her. A wave of contentment washed over me, but when she said she had to leave, silence engulfed me. I needed a moment to process it.
She was right. She had a life beyond this place, responsibilities she couldn't ignore. Love should never be a chain, and I wouldn't be the one to hold her back.
"You can go," I said, clearing the air between us. A hush fell over the chamber, all eyes turning toward me.
"You can go," I repeated, making sure everyone understood.
Arjun turned to her, his voice steady but laced with emotion. "Sree, are you going too?"
She nodded. He closed his eyes, controlling whatever storm raged inside him.
Everything seemed to be settling when suddenly Shruthi spoke.
"Excuse me. I need some fresh air," she said, holding my gaze for a long moment before walking away.
Without thinking, I followed her. We walked in silence, my slow steps trailing behind hers. She didn't say anything, and I didn't break the quiet either.
But inside my mind, chaos brewed.
Would she remember me once she left? Would she come back? What if... what if she never did?
Before I could spiral any further, she stopped and turned to me. I lifted my gaze to hers.
"I love you, Satya," she whispered, her voice trembling yet firm. "I love you so much."
For a moment, the world stilled.
I pulled her into my arms, holding her close, afraid to let go.
"Shall we sit? We have a lot to talk about," she said softly, and I nodded.
She took my hand, leading me to a nearby bench.
"You always listen to me so attentively. Are you always like this, or just with me?" she asked, teasingly.
I chuckled. "I don't know. I never had anyone like you before to compromise for. So I guess I have no idea."
She smiled.
"Why me, Satya?" she asked after a long pause. "You could have had anyone. Why did you choose me?"
I turned to her, looking into her curious eyes.
"You remember the first time we met? When you saved me in the forest?"
She nodded.
"I don't know what you felt back then, but for me... it was love at first sight. It never occurred to me that I had choices. From the moment I saw you, you were my only choice. When you left, I regretted not telling you how I felt. So when you returned, I knew I had to take my chance. Today, I finally did."
She stared at me, her eyes filled with emotions I couldn't name.
I pulled her closer. "When you said you wanted to leave, I was terrified of losing you again. That's why I confessed today. I couldn't hold it in any longer."
She lowered her gaze. "I don't know if my father will approve of this."
I smiled. "He already has. In fact, he agreed before I even proposed."
She gasped. "Wait... you spoke to him?"
I nodded.
A bright smile stretched across her face before she leaned against my shoulder.
