Savi stepped out of the clinic, the bright sunlight a stark contrast to the dimly lit room she had just left. She squinted, raising a hand to shield her eyes from the glare. As she walked down the steps, her mind replayed the therapist's words like a broken record.
"You're suffering from anxiety disorder, Savi," the therapist had said, her voice calm and soothing. "It's triggered by fear, and to overcome it, you need to learn to manage your triggers. Either by confronting them head-on or by taking medication to help regulate your emotions."
Savi's thoughts swirled with the weight of those words. Anxiety disorder. Fear. Triggers. It all seemed so overwhelming, like a never-ending maze with no escape.
As she walked towards the parking lot, lost in her thoughts, she noticed a figure standing under the shade of a nearby tree. Rajat. He was leaning against the trunk, his eyes fixed intently on her. Savi's heart skipped a beat as their eyes met, and for a moment, everything else faded into the background.
Rajat pushed off from the tree trunk, his eyes never leaving Savi's face. "What did the doctor say?" he asked, his voice low and gentle.
Savi hesitated, unsure of how to share the diagnosis with Rajat. She felt a sense of vulnerability wash over her, and she didn't know if she was ready to open up.
"Let's sit in the car first," she said, avoiding his question. "It's so warm here, you must be getting sick. And I don't want you to get into any problem because of me."
Rajat's eyes narrowed slightly, his expression concerned. But he didn't press her for answers. Instead, he nodded and fell into step beside her, his eyes scanning her face as if searching for clues.
As soon as they settled into the car, Rajat turned to Savi, his eyes locked onto hers. "Tell me, Savi, what's bothering you?" he asked, his voice soft and gentle.
Savi felt a lump form in her throat as she looked at Rajat. She had been trying to avoid this conversation, but something about his kind and caring demeanor put her at ease.
She took a deep breath, trying to find the right words. "The doctor said I have anxiety disorder," she said finally, her voice barely above a whisper.
Rajat's expression softened, his eyes filled with compassion. "What does that mean?" he asked, his voice gentle.
Savi hesitated, unsure of how to explain. "It means I get scared easily," she said. "And when I get scared, I...I lose control."
Rajat's eyes never left hers, his expression calm and reassuring. "You're not alone, Savi," he said. "I'm here for you. We'll face this together."
Savi's eyes dropped, her gaze falling to her lap. She couldn't bring herself to look at Rajat, couldn't bear to see the concern and confusion etched on his face.
"What is scaring you, Savi?" Rajat asked again, his voice soft and gentle.
Savi took a deep breath, trying to find the right words. But how could she tell him? How could she explain that it was him, his past that scared her? That she was terrified of losing herself in his messed-up life?
She couldn't. She just couldn't. So she remained silent, her eyes fixed on her lap, her heart heavy with emotion.
Rajat's eyes never left hers, his expression calm and reassuring. But Savi knew he didn't understand. He couldn't understand. Not yet, at least.
Just as the silence between them was becoming unbearable, Rajat's phone rang, shattering the tension. He glanced at the screen, his expression changing from concern to caution.
"It's my lawyer," he said, his voice firm. "I need to take this."
Savi nodded, feeling a mix of relief and curiosity. What could Rajat's lawyer want to talk to him about? Was it something to do with his past, something that could potentially threaten their fragile relationship?
Rajat answered the call, his voice low and serious. "Yes, what is it?" he said, his eyes fixed on some point outside the car window.
Rajat's voice conveyed a sense of urgency as he spoke to his lawyer. "I have to be present today only. Is it urgent?" he asked.
The lawyer's response was firm. "We have a magistrate appointment today, Rajat. If we miss this, it will take until the next hearing for Miss Aashika's bail."
Rajat's eyes closed, his mind racing with the weight of the lawyer's words. But as he stood there, his thoughts drifted to Savi, her fragile form and haunted eyes etched in his mind.
And then, like a punch to the gut, he saw Kiaan's face, his son's innocent eyes looking up at him with a question that pierced his heart. "Papa, when will my mumma come back?"
Rajat's eyes snapped open, the sound of his own ragged breathing filling his ears. He felt like he was being torn apart, caught between his duty to his son and his growing feelings for Savi.
Savi's eyes locked onto Rajat's, her gaze intense and searching. She could sense the turmoil brewing inside him, the conflict that was evident on his face.
Rajat took a deep breath, his voice firm but laced with a hint of apology. "We got an appointment for the bail of Kiaan's mother," he said, his eyes never leaving Savi's. "I need to go."
Savi's expression remained neutral, but Rajat could sense the unspoken questions in her eyes. What about me? What about us?
Rajat's heart twisted with guilt, but he knew he had no choice. He had to be there for Kiaan's sake. "Shall I drop you home first?" he asked, his voice softening.
Savi's heart began to pound in her chest, the familiar sensation of fear creeping up her spine. She felt like she was drowning, like the anxiety was suffocating her.
But she knew she couldn't let Rajat see her like this. She couldn't let him know that the anxiety was back, that she was struggling to keep it together.
So she took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down. She pasted a neutral expression on her face, trying to hide the turmoil brewing inside her.
"It's okay, Rajat," she said, her voice steady.
Rajat's eyes narrowed slightly, as if he could see right through her facade.
Savi watched him, her heart still racing with fear. She knew she had to get a grip on her anxiety, but it seemed like the more she tried to fight it, the stronger it got.
