Chapter 26:

Today was September 13th, Kaiya's 18th birthday. She, along with the other students of Seijoh, was back in school, ready to begin the second semester of their third year. It had been about two weeks since her confrontation with Oikawa and she wondered how he was doing, even though she shouldn't care.

He didn't care about her, after all.

"Miyazaki, wait up!" Iwaizumi exclaimed as he jogged towards her.

The two lived pretty close to one another and usually walked to school together. Oikawa would typically be with them but given the circumstances, Iwaizumi thought it would be best if they walked separately... at least for now.

"Morning," He greeted, "Happy birthday!"

"Thank you..." Kaiya mumbled, "How are you?"

"I think I should be asking you that..." Iwaizumi murmured worriedly.

"Why?" She grimaced slightly.

"Because..." He cleared his throat, staring up at the bright, clear sky, "Ever since you and Oikawa had that argument, you haven't been yourself."

"I'm fine." Kaiya lied.

"Don't be angry at him anymore..." Iwaizumi sighed, "He had good intentions. Yes, he lied but he was only trying to protect your feelings."

"I don't need protecting," She snapped suddenly, "He should have just been honest with me."

Iwaizumi widened his eyes before shaking his head.

"Try to understand it from his perspective..." He explained, "He knew that I didn't have romantic feelings for you... I'm sure he just didn't want to hurt you."

"He didn't have to keep giving me hope about you though." Kaiya muttered sourly.

"Yeah..."

Kaiya held her breath as her gaze focused on the road in front of her. Even though she was furious at Oikawa, a part of her wanted to forgive him because he seemed to understand her. He acknowledged her genuine fears of loneliness and urged her to be more open to opportunities and to let people into her life. He inspired her to strive to be a better version of herself - at least, that was until she found out about his lies.

"I know... I know that he probably didn't mean to lie..." She admitted softly, "I just can't shake the feeling of him lying about... everything. Not just about you."

"Like what?" Iwaizumi asked.

"Like..." She pursed her lips together and faced his curious gaze, "That day you rejected me, Oikawa came over to my house..."

"Right..."

"He was sad that day too..." She continued nimbly, "One thing led to another and... well..."

Her eyes flickered in embarrassment and that was when Iwaizumi put two and two together.

"Oh..." He exhaled, his eyes burning with fury, "He didn't take advantage of your vulnerable state, did he?!"

"No, no," She shook her head quickly, "It wasn't like that... I actually kissed him first."

"Wow... Miyazaki..." Iwaizumi nodded thoughtfully, "I didn't think you'd be into Oikawa...

"I'm not into him!" She exclaimed exasperatedly, her face flushing red with heat.

"Wait, so what does that situation have to do with your current argument with him now?" He blinked in confusion.
