A Perfect Family (2)

The next day, Jennie called her mother to take care of Ella while she was gone. She was planning to look for Jisoo and drag her back home. On their way to her mother's house, she vowed to herself not to come home empty handed.

"Nana!" Ella happily ran to her grandmother who received her with a big hug.

Jennie could have left then, but she hasn't seen her mother since the reunion they had three months ago. So, with the old woman's plead, she stayed for a cup of coffee.

"Alright, Jen, tell me what happened." Her mother knew her very well. There was no hiding anything from her.

"Jisoo and I had a fight," Jennie sighed.

"A fight? So you guys are breaking up?" The hint of excitement did not go unnoticed by Jennie. Still, she pretended not to sense it.

"Maybe," Jennie replied, her eyes never leaving the woman's. "I will file the divorce papers later. That is why I need you to take care of Ella."

"Finally!" Much to her disappointment, her mother clapped in joy. It turns out the old woman was never in favor of Jisoo. She should've known. It was too good to be true when she suddenly acted all sweet and caring to her wife during their reunion.

"Mom, what did you do?" Jennie asked her in a defeated tone.

"What do you mean?" She tried to shrug it off but the wide grin on her face was enough evidence.

"Mom.."

"Oh, honey, I just did what I had to do." The woman confidently sipped on her tea and leaned back on her chair. "She is not the right person for you. I mean, a woman, really, Jennie? Not to mention she was very incompetitive.. But Kai! Kai is the perfect husband for you!"

"Wait, you told Jisoo about Kai?"

"I did.. I thought if she knew about your perfect first love, then she would finally wake up from her delusions. Although I must say, I'm quite surprised it took her three months."

Suddenly, it all began to sink in. Why did Jisoo start to emerse herself in work ?..it was to prove that she can be competitive enough.. that she was worthy of Jennie's love. Why did Jisoo get easily worked up when Kai was invloved? Because she knew about their past. She knew that Jennie's parents liked him more than her.. and she was scared that Jennie would think that way too.

For three months, Jisoo was so focused on proving what she can do.. that in the process, she ended up losing herself too.

Jennie's eyes filled with tears. She looked back at her mother, with anger written all over her face.

"Mom, she accepted me when no one else would," Jennie explained to her weakly, sobs in between. "Sh-She stayed with me when I had nothing. She took me in when you kicked me out for being gay!! How could you.. How could you treat her like that?"

The woman was about to say something more but Jennie quickly stood up before she could do so.

"Ella!" The little girl came running to her, wondering why her her mother's cheeks are stained with tears once again. "Let's go."

"Where? I thought I will be staying with Nana for a while?"

Jennie ignored her mother's protests and proceeded to collect Ella's things.

"Change of plans, we're going to get your mom."

The little girl's eyes lit up at the mention of her mom. She excitedly ran off and hopped in the car while Jennie followed right after. They were off to bring Jisoo back.. to mend the perfect family which was ruined by the cruel judgement of the outsiders.
